What did say about PGA tour:

According to The Fire Pit Collective’s Alan Shipnk sharing informally, Mickelson described investors as “a scary motherf to be involved with…”.

“We know they killed Khashoggi and have a terrible record on human rights. They kill people out there for being gay. Knowing all this, why would I believe it? Because it’s a once in a lifetime thing.” There’s going to be an opportunity to reshape how the PGA Tour operates.”

According to Mickelson, his words were taken out of context, however, he admits that although these comments should not have been shared, the main problem is what he said.

Comments Today:

Phil Mickelson has apologised for his harsh comments about a proposed Saudi-backed breakaway league and said he will be taking a break from golf.

The six-time major champion has been one of the players most closely associated with the possible rival to the PGA Tour, which is being spearheaded by the former world No 1 Greg Norman.

It was revealed last week, when an interview Mickelson conducted with biographer Alan Shipnuck last November was made public, that the American had concerns about Saudi Arabia’s human rights record but was prepared to overlook them in order to put pressure on the PGA Tour.

Apology to Watson:

Mickelson told Shipnuck the Saudis behind a proposed breakaway rival league were “scary mother (expletive)s to get involved with.”

He also told Shipnuck, who is writing a biography on Mickelson due out in May, that it was worth getting in bed with the Saudis, despite their history of human rights abuses, if it meant a chance to change the PGA Tour.

“We know they killed Khashoggi and have a horrible record on human rights. They execute people over there for being gay,” he said.

KPMG Deal:

KPMG announced Tuesday afternoon that it had ended its relationship with the six-time major champion, a deal that goes back to 2008.

Although the release stated that the two sides had “mutually agreed” to end their partnership, it was clearly a response to lax support.

Alan Shipnk made up for Mickelson in the face of derogatory comments about the PGA Tour and the proposed Saudi-backed Super Golf League that surfaced this week.
