Concept of Physical Fitness | Definition

Physical fitness is the ability of your body’s systems to work together efficiently in order for you to be healthy and perform daily activities. Being efficient entails carrying out daily tasks with as little effort as possible.

  • A fit person can complete schoolwork, take care of household responsibilities, and still have enough energy to enjoy sports and other leisure activities.
  • Such a person can effectively respond to everyday life situations such as raking leaves at home, stocking shelves at a part-time job, and marching in the school band.
  • A fit person can also respond to emergency situations, such as running to get help or assisting a friend in need.

Importance of Physical Fitness

  1. Physical Fitness controls weight
  2. It combats health conditions and diseases
  3. Also improves mood
  4. Physical Fitness boosts energy level
  5. It promotes better sleep
  6. Physical Fitness puts the spark back into your sex life

Types of Physical Fitness

There are three types of fitness, and understanding the differences between them will assist you in setting your fitness goals. It is critical to strike a balance between the three because they influence each other and each contributes to overall fitness.

1. Aerobic fitness:

Aerobic exercises strengthen your heart and lungs. The term “aerobic” means “containing oxygen.” The goal of aerobic conditioning is to increase the amount of oxygen delivered to your muscles, allowing them to work for longer periods of time. Any activity that raises and maintains your heart rate for an extended period of time will improve your aerobic conditioning.

2. Muscle-strengthening:

Stronger muscles can refer to either more powerful muscles that can perform larger tasks (such as lifting heavier weights) or muscles that can work for longer periods of time before becoming exhausted (endurance). Weight training (resistance training) and simple exercises such as push-ups are two examples of muscle strengthening exercises.

3. Flexibility:

Flexibility, like aerobic fitness and muscle strengthening, is a result of physical activity. Stretching promotes flexibility. When you use your muscles, they are repeatedly shortened, especially when you exercise. They must be slowly and regularly stretched to compensate for the repeated shortening caused by other activities.
