But Martin was hauled out of the game early in the third quarter due to “tightness” in his hamstring, according to coach Damien Hardwick.

Martin is doubtful for Saturday’s crucial showdown with Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium, but Dion Prestia (concussion) could return.

Martin contributed 17 disposals, eight score involvements, four clearances, and 359 yards gained in the first half to the win over West Coast.

“He was incredibly good, exciting, which was fantastic,” remarked Hardwick.

“He has his quickness back and the ability to move the ball and see the ground and his kicking was also on point today.”

“It was a really good game,” he said.

When West Coast utility Elliot Yeo went down with a more serious hamstring injury in the third quarter, both teams were down a man.

Nic Naitanui’s comeback from knee injury boosted the Eagles, with Tim Kelly (40 disposals, nine clearances) and Luke Shuey (26, 11) active at the ruck star’s feet.

Naitanui was a key player at stoppages, finishing with 19 disposals, 26 hit-outs, and six clearances to help the Eagles win the clearance war (45-31).

Kelly finished an outstanding individual performance with two goals, while Jamie Cripps netted three.

Richmond had more consistent scoring chances, spreading the scoring load and making the most of them.

Jack Riewoldt (three), Shai Bolton, Shane Edwards, Tom Lynch, Kamdyn McIntosh, Liam Baker, and Pickett all scored twice.

Richmond led by 39 points early in the third quarter but the Eagles took control after Martin and Yeo went fire.

The visitors kicked 6.5 to 4.1 in the third quarter, threatening an upset when debutant Zane Trew neatly converted a free kick to trim the lead to 11 points.

But the Tigers kept the pressure on Baker when Naitanui’s off-the-ball collision with Ivan Soldo resulted in Shannon Hurn’s defensive mark being turned into a Richmond free kick close to goal.
