VSS Panthers Senior Varsity AA Triumphs in BC Place Stadium Showdown

Vancouver, BC — In a gripping championship showdown that unfolded at BC Place Stadium on Saturday, the VSS Panthers Senior Varsity AA team clinched their third provincial title since the triumphant year 2018.

The Panthers displayed an impeccable record throughout the league season, securing an undefeated streak. However, their championship rivals, the John Barsby Bulldogs, hailing from Nanaimo, had an equally commendable run with six wins and just one loss during the regular season. This set the stage for a nail-biting clash between these two football powerhouses.

As the clock ticked to just over two minutes, the Panthers seemed to have a firm grip on the lead, boasting a score of 23-14. The Bulldogs, determined to challenge the status quo, scored a crucial touchdown and executed a two-point conversion, narrowing the gap to a single point. Undeterred, the Panthers adhered to their strategic game plan.

Quarterback Cole Budgen showcased his prowess by picking up vital first downs, including a pivotal fourth-and-inches conversion. With a mere 1:21 seconds remaining, Panthers’ running back Johan Lee sealed the victory with one final first down, effectively running down the clock. This marks the Panthers’ third provincial title, following their previous triumphs in 2018 and 2019.

Junior Varsity Panthers Secure Dominant Win

In a double victory for the VSS Panthers, the Junior Varsity team emerged triumphant in their provincial championship game on the same Saturday. They outclassed the Parksville-Qualicum Ballenas Whalers with a commanding 61-22 victory. Notably, the junior squad had faced a heartbreaking loss of 13-12 to the Windsor Dukes in the finals last year.
