Jon Gruden Full Email
Jon Gruden, the current coach of the Las Vegas Raiders and one of the most well-known figures in the NFL for the previous two decades, sent an email to a team executive concerning DeMaurice Smith, the executive director of the NFL Players Association. Gruden’s email used a racist cliche popular in anti-Black imagery to describe Smith.
Gruden is the current head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, having previously coached the Raiders and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the latter of which he led to their first Super Bowl victory in 2002.
At the time he sent the email to Bruce Allen, the president of the organization that is now known as the Washington Football Team, he was a commentator for ESPN.
Jon Gruden Resignation

The sports world responds to Jon Gruden’s resignation as Raiders coach. After The New York Times reported that Gruden made racist, misogynistic, and homophobic statements directed at NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith, among others, Gruden stepped down as the Raiders’ head coach on Monday night.
Between 2010 and 2018, Gruden wrote emails to former Washington Football Team president Bruce Allen. The news of Gruden’s resignation was first reported by NFL Network.
Following his decision to resign, Gruden issued a statement. He was in the fourth year of a 10-year, $100 million contract.
