The WTA 250 event, the WTA Slovenia Open, was held outside on hard courts. The Slovenia Open, now in its seventh year, was last held in 2010. It was mostly organised as a result of the 2021 season’s Asian tournaments being postponed owing to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, will play qualifier Anna-Lena Friedsam in the 2022 Slovenia Open second round.
Raducanu returned to the US Open, the site of her greatest triumph, after a string of disappointing performances during the season.
The kid shocked everyone by winning her first Grand Slam match in New York as a qualifier last year. This time, however, there was no happy ending as Alize Cornet’s victory over her in the first round put a stop to her title defence.
