1. TEAM INDIA (MEN IN BLUE JERSEYS)

Team India holds the top position in ICC T20 Rankings in 2023 becoming the no.1 team in the T20 format with 19,939 points and 268 ratings leaving England behind with a gap of 4003 points and 7.0 ratings.

Cricket was introduced to India by British sailors in the 18th century. Team India played their first international match on 25 June 1932 in London at Lord’s against England.

For nearly twenty years, India had to wait until 1952 before it won a Test match. 

With only 35 victories in 196 Test matches in its first fifty years of international cricket, it had little success. But, the squad grew stronger in the 1970s as players like Sunil Gavaskar, Gundappa Viswanath, Kapil Dev, and the Indian spin quartet came to prominence. 

India’s ODI and T20I debuts in limited-overs cricket were in 1974 and 2006, respectively. 

The group has triumphed in five significant ICC competitions, including two Cricket  World Cups (1983 and 2011), one ICC T20 World Cup (2007), and two ICC Champions Trophy victories (2002 and 2013) 

Rahul Dravid is the team’s head coach, and Rohit Sharma currently serves as the team’s captain across all formats.

Sourav Ganguly (former cricketer of the Indian Team) is the president of BCCI(Board Of Control For Cricket In India) which governs the Indian Cricket Team.

2. TEAM ENGLAND

England occupies the 2nd no. position in the table with 9936 points and 261 ratings.

The first Test match was played between  England and Australia(15, march 1877), and on 15 June 1909, these two nations, along with South Africa, established the Imperial Cricket Conference, which is now known as the International Cricket Council. 

England has played 1,055 Test matches as of 12 September 2022, winning 384 and losing 317 (with 354 draws).

On January 5, 1971, England and Australia also played their first ODI. 

Additionally, England has participated in  770 ODIs and has triumphed in 389 of them.

On June 13, 2005, England played it’s first  T20 international, this time also against Australia.

In 160 T20Is played, England has won 82  of them.

Cricket is the national sport of england and it originated in England itself.

They have made four appearances in the  Cricket World Cup final, winning it once in  2019, and have placed second in two ICC  Champions Trophies (2004 and 2013). 

In 2010, they won the ICC T20 World Cup, while in 2016, they finished second.

England team was originally regulated by Marylebone Cricket Club (the MCC) in 1903 and has been governed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) since 1997.

3. SOUTH AFRICA (THE PROTEAS)

When South Africa hosted an England cricket team during the 1888–89 season, they simultaneously entered first-class and international cricket.

The team was initially incapable of competing with Australia or England, but after gaining knowledge and skills, they were able to form a competent team by the first decade of the 20th century.

The South African team acquired the number one position in international rankings many times.

With a victory percentage of more than 60% in ODI cricket, South Africa is also among the most successful teams. However, its only triumph in competitions run by the ICC was the 1998 Champions Trophy. At the 1998 Commonwealth Games, South Africa won the gold medal.

The organization in charge of overseeing both professional and amateur cricket in South Africa is called Cricket South Africa (CSA).

4. PAKISTAN (MEN IN GREEN)

PAK is at the 4th no. with 10,328 points and the same ratings as that of no. 3 team i.e.SA

On 28 July 1952, Pakistan received Test status. India defeated Pakistan by an innings and 70 runs in their first-ever Test match, which was played at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla Ground. 

Pakistan has played 446 Test matches, winning 146 of them, losing 136 of them, and drawing 164 others.

The team has played 945 one-day internationals, winning 498, losing 418, tying 9, and has 20 games conclude in a tie. 

A total of 202 Twenty20 Internationals have been played by the side, with 123 victories, 71 defeats, and 3 ties.

The notable accomplishment of Pakistan is that it has triumphed in every major ICC international cricket competition, including the ICC Champions Trophy, ICC T20 World Cup, and ICC Cricket World Cup (1992). (2017)

5. NEW ZEALAND (BLACK CAPS)

As the fifth nation to play Test cricket, they took on England in Christchurch for their inaugural match. 

New Zealand had to wait more than 26 years, from 1930, to defeat the West Indies at Eden Park in Auckland for its first Test triumph.

During the 1972–73 season, they faced Pakistan in Christchurch for their inaugural ODI.

The first T20 match was played between New Zealand and Australia at Eden Park, Auckland on 17 Feb 2005.

New Zealand has played 1412 international matches as of August 21, 2022. Of those, they have won 559, lost 627, tied 15, and drew 168 games, while 44 matches have ended in a tie.

No significant victory(World Cup) has come yet but they have managed to win ICC Champions Trophy and World Test Championship once.

New Zealand Cricket is the governing body of the New Zealand Cricket Team.

At the NZC annual meeting in 2016, Debbie Hockley was chosen to lead the organization. In 2019, she was chosen to serve another three-year term.

6. AUSTRALIA

The team participates in One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket and is the joint-oldest team in Test cricket history, having played in the first-ever Test match in 1877. The team has also played in the first ODI (against England in the 1970–71 season) and the first T20I (against New Zealand in the 2004–05 season), winning both matches.

844 Test matches have been played by the national team, with 400 victories, 227 defeats, 215 draws, and 2 ties. In terms of total victories, win-loss percentage, and percentage of victories, Australia has been the most successful side in Test cricket history.

The team has played 972 ODIs, winning 589, losing 340, drawing 9 games, and having 34 games conclude in a tie. Australia has won more than 60% of its games in ODI cricket, making them the most successful side ever.

In 165 Twenty20 International games, the national team has won 86, lost 73, tied three, and had three games end in a tie. The current ICC Men’s T20 World Cup champions, Australia, won their first T20 World Cup by defeating New Zealand in the final in 2021.

Australia has won five Cricket World Cups as of 2021(4 ODI AND 1T20); no other side has won more than two.

7. WEST INDIES(WINDIES)

Windies had their first official international test match with England at Lord’s, London on 23 June 1928.

The West Indies team was the best in the world in both Test and One Day International cricket from the middle of the late 1970s to the early 1990s.

The West Indies were the first team to appear in three straight World Cup finals (1975, 1979, and 1983), and they were the first team to win back-to-back World Cups (1975 and 1979).

Only Australia has broken either of these records, appearing in four straight World Cup Finals (1996, 1999, 2003, and 2007) and winning three consecutive World Cups (1999, 2003, and 2007).

The West Indies have won the ICC Cricket World Cup twice (1975 and 1979), the ICC T20 World Cup twice (2012 and 2016), and the ICC Champions Trophy once (2004).

The organization in charge of overseeing cricket in the West Indies is called Cricket West Indies (CWI).

8. SRI LANKA(THE LIONS)

The team debuted in international competition (as Ceylon) in 1926–1927. After receiving Test status in 1981, Sri Lanka became the eighth country to play Test cricket.

Sri Lanka won the Cricket World Cup in 1996 (against Australia), the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002 (co-champions with India), and the ICC T20 World Cup in 2014 (vs India).

Several world records are now held by the Sri Lankan cricket team, including the record for the highest team total in a Test match.

The governing body of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team is known as the Sri Lanka Cricket whose president is Mr. Shammi Silva for the period 2021-2023.

9. BANGLADESH (THE TIGERS)

The 1979 ICC Trophy in England marked Bangladesh’s debut in competitive international cricket.

Bangladesh faced Pakistan in its inaugural ODI game on March 31, 1986, as part of the Asia Cup.

Bangladesh played their first ever official International Test Cricket match against India on November 2000 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Unfortunately, they lose the match by 9 wickets.

Bangladesh sets the record for most consecutive defeats in Tests (21, between 2000 and 2002) and ODIs (23, between 2001 and 2004).

Bangladesh has played 134 Tests as of June 27, 2022, and has won 16. The squad has had more success in ODIs as of July 16, 2022, winning 143 of its 399 games. Additionally, Bangladesh has competed in 135 T20 Internationals, winning 47 of them.

They haven’t lifted the World Cup Trophy yet. Bangladesh’s cricket is governed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, or BCB for short.

10. AFGHANISTAN

Afghanistan has been a cricket-playing nation since the middle of the 20th century, but the national team didn’t start to succeed until the beginning of the 21st.

The inaugural One-Day International between Afghanistan and Scotland took place at Willowmoore Park in Benoni, South Africa on April 19, 2009.

The first Test between India and Afghanistan was played at Chinnaswami Stadium in Bangalore, India, from June 14 to June 18, 2018.

Afghanistan played Ireland in its inaugural T20 International match on February 1 at P.Sara in Colombo.

Afghanistan’s 278/3 score against Ireland on February 23, 2019, in Dehradun, retains the record for the greatest T20I score ever.

They have played 104 T20 matches in total thus far, winning 68, losing 35, and drawing one.

They have yet to win the world cup. The official organization in charge of regulating cricket in Afghanistan is the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB; previously Afghanistan Cricket Federation).

Azizullah Fazli, who had been in charge for only two months, was replaced by former all-rounder Mirwais Ashraf on Wednesday as acting chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board. Mohd Nabi is the current captain of the Afghanistan Cricket Team.
