During qualifying, the red flag policy was changed. Previously, a driver’s quickest time was deleted and they were disqualified for the remainder of the session if they raised a red flag during the session.
The quickest lap of a driver who raises a red flag and manages to get the car back to the pits now gets deleted, although they can rejoin the session. At the second Sydney Motorsport Park round in 2021, Cameron Waters raised the red flag, but he was able to make it back to the pits on his own.
