Frankfurter-eating prodigy Joey “Jaws” Chestnut won his 15th Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest on Monday, devouring 63 hot dogs and buns in the annual spectacle of excess.
After missing last year’s frank fest due to pregnancy, women’s record holder Miki Sudo devoured 40 wieners and buns to capture the women’s title in a dominating chowdown return.
Chestnut, a 15-time winner of Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, will participate with a ruptured tendon in his leg this year. Chestnut arrived on crutches for the event’s official weigh-in on Friday, but he says the injury will not affect his performance.
“I’m going to eat like a maniac,” Chestnut said to Fox News Digital. “Don’t worry. I’ll be able to eat while standing. “I’m ecstatic.”
During Monday’s contest, Chestnut might break his own record. He presently holds the world record for the hottest dogs ingested in ten minutes, having consumed 76 hot dogs last year.
The Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest 2022 will begin at 10:45 a.m. ET. The women’s competition will take place first, followed by Chestnut.
