Sonny had cancer since the early 1980s, according to his Facebook message, and it was the cause of his death. He had a total laryngectomy in 1983, removing his vocal cords owing to stage three laryngeal cancer; he later learned to vocalize using his esophagus.
Years later, in 2012, the Hells Angel underwent another prostate operation and was confirmed cancer-free. On June 30, 2022, it was stated that he had died “peacefully” following a “short fight with cancer.”
“If you’re reading this message, you’ll know that I’m gone,” he wrote in his final Facebook post.

In the end, he added, he was surrounded by “what really matters” – his wife, Zorana, and loved ones.
“Keep your head held high, keep loyal, remain free, and always value honor,” he ended. Sonny had to have his vocal cords removed at one time.
