In 2000, Daboll began his NFL coaching career as a defensive coaching assistant with the New England Patriots, and in 2002, he was moved to wide receivers coach for the Patriots. Daboll departed the Patriots after the 2006 season to become the Jets’ quarterbacks coach.

He joined Eric Mangini’s offensive staff in Cleveland in 2009 as offensive coordinator. In 2009, the Browns were the NFL’s 32nd-ranked offensive, while in 2010, they were the 29th-ranked offense. Under Tony Sparano’s leadership, Brian was named Offensive Coordinator of the Miami Dolphins in 2011, and his team improved from 30th in the league to 20th in overall offense.
